Hello! My name is Chris, a Jamaican anthropologist currently living between Jamaica and Sweden. I am a third-year PhD Candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Gothenburg’s School of Global Studies.

My doctoral project, tentatively titled “Moving from Behind God”, is based on 15 months of ethnographic fieldwork carried out in St. Thomas, Jamaica across 2024 and 2025. This research is centred around the main themes of infrastructural development, political violence, citizenship, electoral politics and illicit trade networks. Alongside funding from the University of Gothenburg, my project has also been funded by the Swedish Society for Anthropology & Geography and The Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation. Learn more about my research here.

I hold a BSc in Sociology (Major) & Social Anthropology (Minor) from The University of the West Indies, Mona in Jamaica with First Class Honours, and an MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom with Distinction.
